Profile: Luis Manuel Luis

Personal background
I like to identify myself with usernames like "Angolano", or "Luso-Americano" because they deftly define who I am. I am both Portuguese and American.

Graduated as a Naval Architect from the State University of New York, Maritime College at Fort Schuyler, and work professionally as a structural engineer.

If I weren't an engineer I would have been an Astronomer. I love to read Astronomy, although I do not practice Astronomy amateurship, because I prefer theoretical Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Because I understand the complexity and immensity of the universe as science portrays it, I am a strong believer in the possibility of the existence of a vast number of worlds where life exists, both in our galaxy and many others...billions and billions!!! So, I am hoping to see the day when such a discovery will be announced - the detection of signals from a distant civilization.

Let's continue SETI until we know.

Cheers.

Luis M. Luis

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I want to participate in SETI because I believe the fundamental premise of this idea is right, and it is just a matter of time (and perhaps) better technology, until we find something very interesting.

Drake's equation is also a very good confidence-building tool!
