Personal background
I'm a 21 year old male from Connecticut, *USA* (I'm actually Canadian) and always have been interested in astronomy and extraterrestrial intelligence. I run my PC every day, all day much of the time completing Seti@home units. My PC is runing an AMD Athlon Thunderbird at 1.33Ghz, 266Mhz FSB on an ABIT motherboard with 352MB of SDRAM, (pc133). At this current time Oct. 19 2001 6:00p.m., I have completed 144 units and have an average CPU time per unit of 8:09.
I build and repair computers for a hobby.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I absolutely beleive in the existence of extraterrestrial life in the universe. The universe MUCH too LARGE to think that Earth is the only planet to carry life forms. There are huge numbers of potential planets in our galaxy alone. There must be. The Earth is not the ONLY lucky planet in our galaxy, not to mention our gigantic universe with billions and maybe trillions or even more similar galaxies. The numbers are mind-boggling!
I beleive that the first contact with extraterrestrial intelligence will be through radio signals (there are many different kinds). The first discovery of a living life form I beleive will be either from exploring other planets, or an Earth-bound projectile such as a meteor, an asteroid, a comet or even an extraterrestrilally launched device or projectile, :) Hey, you never know!
If Earth sends somkind of beacon into space with informaton of Earth, humans, animals, etc., it would take SO LONG to get even out of our solar system. By the time it gets half way through our galaxy, the earth would probably not even exist anymore, or a funny thought, we could probably even catch up with it later with our spaceships! If it hasent crashed into a star or a planet that is.

I run SETI@home because I beleive it is a great idea and I want to be a part of it.
