Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I certainly hope ET life exists. How and when are a different story, I suppose it would be after we've obtained a feasble mode of travel that allows us to travel great distances. Or if some inteligent alien race decides that exploring our arm in this galaxy is worth it.

Dangers always exist with something like this, are 'they' agressive warriors who are just looking to expand their empire and use the population of low technology civilizations for slave labor, or are they explorers and scientists who are looking for the same things we are? No one can really answer that.

As for transmitting a beacon? What type of beacon would we use? Microwave, Laser, or maybe everything we have in the way of Communication. Though it basically paints a bullseye on our foreheads.

I run SETI@home just for the simple fact that I've always been interested in ET Life. If spending eight hours of time going through your data while I'm at work helps, I'm glad to do it.
