Personal background
My name is Simonas Indrele. I was born on September 11th, 1986 (interesting date, isnt it?) I am Lithuanian although i Live in Ambler, Pennsylvania. I am a highschool student, and i'm trying to put my AMD Athlon 1.0 GHz 384MB DDR to a different use other than computer games. I was always interested in ET.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I do think ET exists, although that is an overwhelming thought, but when u think about it, if we are alone in this huge universe it also comes as an overwheming thought.I'm not sure if humans will ever find it, theres many different ways that these other "kinds" can live, maybe they use some other means of communication, and they might not care if we exist, or they already been and seen our little planet. Some benefits of finding extraterrestrial life could be learning new ways of transportation or ways to cure diseases, etc. The only danger of it could be the fact that they arent as friedly as we would like them to be, ofcourse we all know that the human race (if had means of intergalactic travel) would try to take over the universe (Not all of humans, but the evil part, just imagine Hitler and Stalin with a machine capable of intergalactic travel)
2. I think humans should transmit beacons for others to find, we search for different life forms on different planets and galaxies and we hope they are sending information, then we should also send information just incase someone out there cares. If we would send information, i dont think it would be very smart if we send the history of mankind. If they would ever find it, would be very terrified of the many ways we are/were evil.
3. I found out about SETI@home from my friend who has multiple computers and runs SETI@home on all of them. I never thought i would be a part of this great quest to find extraterrestial life, but by having SETO@home, i feel like i have a purpose to mankind.
