Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The universe is certainly too large for the human race to be the only peoples able to travel beyond their own world. With our solar system alone having millions of stars each capable of containing their own planetary system, I am sure there are races of beings who think and act similar to us, and I am sure there are groups which are so different that we cannot even begin to imagine how they live.

Sadly, I do not believe that human beings will meet an alien race in my life time, but I am sure someday we will. Perhaps we are not even ready for that today, for if we met an alien race today, I fear that humans would first react extremely violent and hostile to the visitors, and give them the wrong impression. I do wish that someday, when we are a more evolved and peacful race, we will meet others in our solar system.

Which is why I run SETI on my computer as much as I can. Not to compete with others to get the most work units, but because I want to help to communicate to others out there, who might actually also be trying to communicate with us, but we have just not heard them yet.
