Personal background
'Spacehead'? Guilty as charged.

UK in origin and current location, though that's likely to change soon. At the time of writing I am 4 weeks away from a Ph.D. in advanced signal processing using alternative number systems... so this is kind of fun :) When i'm not doing that, I am involved in microsatellite design (ESA ESEO mission), intrumentation, robotic space systems, and concurrent distributed engineering using the internet.
When I'm not doing _that_ (and I'm really short of time by this point) I enjoy outdoor sports especially canoe polo and orienteering. I like languages (have 6 so far) and travel, and just sometimes I even sleep.

I founded the regional branch of SEDS (www.seds.org) and organised the UK national student space conference of 2001.

See you in Houston for WSC'02. Maybe we should have a s@h party?
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Q1

Yes, maybe never, many and various.

Q2

We already have, perhaps unwittingly. Being specific, then ok, lets send a structured, specific one (except again I believe we have).

Q3

Because:
it's thought-provoking
technical interest
i know what it is to have too much data to crunch and too little time
contributing to the largest supercomputer devised is worthwhile
i have access to a bunch of processing power which 50% of the time isn't doing a whole heck of a lot
