Profile: [DPC]Team Zuid-Holland

Personal background
We are the Dutch Power Cows Team Zuid-Holland! We try to incorporate all the computing power of the Dutch province Zuid-Holland into our stables to contribute to the greater good of the BOINC SETI@HOME project, and of course to climb the stats ladder.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
We think extraterrestrial life does exist, however we are not sure if there are ways to communicate with any aliens. It may be so that there is no other intelligent life in the galaxy, or maybe if there is, they might have a completely different way of determining intelligence, and they may or may not have developed a completely different way of communication as opposed to radio waves and such.
If these beings would be able to communicate with us, either over a distance of many lightyears, or in direct human-to-alien contact, we think that there would be many benefits, like the possibility of gaining knowledge of how the universe works, and if there are many more alien races out there. The downside of all this, is that humanity will probably have the bad luck to have first contact with a species who are far more advanced than we are, but less civilized in the meaning we give to that word. In other words, it could mean the conquering or the destruction of the human race.

Even so, we think that we should transmit special beacon signals, at first for a request to contact us, the aliens who can receive such messages probably also have the ability to pinpoint the source of the signal, so if they are interested, they will come to us. If these creatures are destructive and malignant, then at least we will go out with the knowledge that we were never alone, which makes us earn our own place in the universe, or at least in it's history.

Now for the really important stuff. Why do we run BOINC SETI@HOME?
Well, primarily for the statistics, and helping our Dutch Power Cows teammates to the top. It is also our opinion that the last 10 to 20 years, the exploration and research of space, and most importantly our own solar system, has slowed almost to a halt, and with economical problems all over the world, not much is happening anymore. What we really want, is breakthroughs. Breakthroughs which happen in our lifetime!
