Profile: Shannon

Personal background
I am a Preventive Maintenance Coordinator in the Unit 1 Instruments & Controls Maintenance department at Arkansas Nuclear One power station. I hold high hopes for a better world for us all through the knowledge that can be gained from studying our universe. I live in Russellville, Arkansas and have been a native Arkansan for the majority of my 50 years of life. My favorite hobby is motorcycling and I presently own 3 bikes. I'm also a degreed and experienced part time professional musician. My musical talent and skills have been a defining influence in my life but my minor during the college years also included curriculum in mathemetics and sciences. I enjoy knowing that the computer time I am contributing makes me part of an effort that could some day bring humanity the greatest discovery of all; the realization that WE ARE NOT ALONE!!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
(1) What I know of the vastness of the universe causes me to feel that there surely must be other intelligent civilizations in existance. I have no real hope that I will live long enough to see man progress to the point that we make contact with such beings but I believe that we must never stop trying.

(2) I'm a bit leary of bringing attention to ourselves right now since the intents of another intelligent race cannot possibly be known. I think listening is best for now, until man developes further.

(3) I enjoy making a contribution to something I dream about constantly. I think the project is wonderful in its goals and expectations. I would like to see SETI become more routinely and widely publicized.
