Personal background

Some of my favorite quotes:

When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world. ~John Muir

One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men. No machine can do the work of one extraordinary man. ~Elbert Hubbard
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have very little doubt that ET life exsists... However I worry that the human race will inadvertantly become the hostile intelligent life which steals worlds and uses them for the resources they offer. I realize this is a bleek outlook on space exploration, but human history for the most part has been far from peaceful or loving. I want nothing more than to one day be proven wrong. If intelligent ET life is ever contacted, I hope it's a dedicated astronomer or psychologist that does the talking and not a politician.

I am opposed to the idea of a signal being sent out by humans any time soon. Receiving and sorting signals takes far less energy than transmitting them. I feel that we need to take space related projects in stride and first work out some problems on Earth. Let's not get too big for our britches. :)
