Profile: Donna Hruska

Personal background
I am an owner/officer of a sound design and e-commerce company, 66 years old, widowed, living in the Chicago, IL, south suburbs. I do small business couseling for SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives), serve on several local charitble organization boards and travel extensively, generally to unusual places. In the last two years I have been to Israel, Egypt, Antarctica and Siberia, as well as a few more mundane sites. In September, I'll be in Iceland and Greenland. Who knows where after that? I read extensively, both fiction and non-fiction and like to keep up on the latest scientific discoveries. I signed up for SETI@home as soon as I read about it in The Planetary Report, the Planetary Society's monthly magazine. I have lots of computer power and am happy to share it for this project.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have absolutely no idea if extraterrestrial life exists, but it seems highly unlikely that we are unique in the universe. All we can do is keep exploring with an open mind. As our technology improves, our chances of finding someone out there increases. We should send signals, as well, hoping that we aren't the only ones looking.

I think SETI@home is a very creative idea that allows people like me to contribute in a meaningful way. One of its big advantages is that it provides so much additional computing cost at very little cost.
