Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes. However I think our current technology is inadequate for the task. As is usually the case some kind of monumental change will occur which will open entirely new methods of communication. (My $.02 would be on some type of quantum communication).

2.) Sure, It's (relatively) low cost. I would put it under the "Can't hurt might help" category.

3.) JIC. Great idea, if for nothing other than the raw computing power. I would LOVE a linux/390 client. I realize that the S/390 MF hardware is going to have alot of overhead with the Flops, but it would be neat to see how it performed.
