Personal background
Hey..I'm Kris, age 32, a full-time returning student, hailing from east coast USA. Despite scrupulously avoiding advanced mathematics or science coursework throughout my academic existence, I recently ran across a neat probability equation, the Drake equation, that sort of got me thinking about things that heretofore never touched down NEAR my cerebral area- this is a good thing, for many reasons...

(Anything that hones my mathematical skills while representing such a cool expression of romantic hope is in all probability worth exploring...so here I am!)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do think extraterrestrial life, in all probability, exists. When and how humans will discover it I can't say; in fact I suspect ET will "discover" us prior to us finding them.

(Sometimes I wonder if they already HAVE found us...just sort of ignoring our probes, etc, "It's THEM again, yuck-don't answer!"). Perhaps they have already come to their own conclusions re: the many possible benefits and dangers resulting from such a discovery...beneficial exchange of knowledge and technologies; etc, conversely dangerous exposures to, say; unknown alien pathogens, for example.
Inherently dangerous for both humans and ET, for many reasons, not the least being our inherent mistrust therein, in the face of wondrous possibilities for mankind.

I believe humans should transmit a beacon for others to find; not sure what specific message, if any. (An expression of some universal constant or physical law to start up an initial dialogue, maybe... a graphic or numeric code representation)?

I run SETI@home because logic suggests there are many other intelligent civilizations in many other galaxies...(and humans can be confounding sometimes)!
I think the project is exciting and thought-provoking; glad I found it.
