I am a US citizen who was born and raised in Cartagena, Colombia. I am 17 years old and have been a fanatic of anything that contains science especially anything regarding outerspace. My father has motivated this interest by subscribing to Scientific American and from which I have learned much. I once found an article about a program called Seti@Home and since then I have followed the development of this interesting project. Now powered with my new PC I can complete the units in about 8 hours so im running it for long periods of time. I enjoy sailing and im planning to construct a home made rocket. I have 2 nephews and the small one is my Godson.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe its a wonderful idea. I have talked to many people on the web to integrade them into this wonderful program.
Our whole world is a beacon which constantly is transmiting radio waves of all kinds in all directions right now and we have done so for the last 50 years. And i believe that the message were transmitting are not of a kind that would motivate aliens to be friendly to us. In these transmitions you can see wars for most of the time and the idea that an alien being would come to earth is always responded by force in most movies, so I believe that the danger involved would be that they would find us as a threat as they witness what our transmitions have to offer. Many would add other things as Art and that such a being would be inteligent enough to understand that its just an instinct responce, however these inteligent beings may not welcome us as we would want them to because of their distrust in us.
This program will help us keep atleast some hope in the most eternal question "Are we alone in the Universe?". For this i will do my part in hope that all the other people do the same and when you join all this together we will all acomplish in solving this enigma.
