Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I will not answer the question of the existance of extraterrestial life with a statement that begins with "I believe..." If I could answer the question of the existance of extraterrestial life, either with "yes" or "no," this project would be a waste of time since we would already know.
Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? Hmmm... If lost in a strange town, the same cry of "here I am" can be interpreted as "help me" or "hurt me." I think we should wait to see if the locals are friendly before yelling too loudly.
I run SETI@home because it is a cool screen saver. I really have no hope of finding anything while running it.
