Profile: Paul E C Smith

Personal background
Hi, I'm Paul, I live in France though I originate in Yorkshire, England. I,m currently looking after my young children and renovating the loft we all live in. It is for my children and their children that I participate in this grand undertaking, which if successful will be the most significant event in Human history. No mean legacy to leave ones children.
My hero, the person above all others I admire, is the Late Carl Sagan.A scientist, writer, philosopher and truly inspiring Human, the loss of his humanity, passion and eloquence is sorely missed.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, extraterrestrial life exists, but I suspect that its incredibly rare and mostly microbial. I would love to think there was microbial life somewhere else in this solar system, as it would prove my pessimism unfounded. As for discovering life elsewhere, I suspect that for the vast majority of the human race it will be an irrelevance, as they're far too busy trying to destroy life on this planet to take any notice of life elsewhere. And inteligent extra-terrestrials! Well we all live in hope.
However, we sentient few should still continue the search, for those hopefully more enlightened generations yet to come.
As for SETI and SETI@home. Well if I am wrong, and I hope I am, this project is perhaps the most important contribution to science and mankinds future that I could ever be involved in. For the hope, excitement and gift to my children, I am eternally gratefull to the Planetary Society and Berkeley.
Suggestions; just keep up the good work and please keep trying to expand the collection network to other sites globally. Good luck and thanks.
