Personal background
My name is Phil.

I'm 24.

I'm from Canada. They think I'm slow, eh?

I think it had to have been science fiction that peaked my interest in the actual of other worldly life. Sitting in front of that 20th century marvel (television) with my father watching Star Trek (TOS) re-runs. (Oh yeah, and there was that whole Star Wars thing.)

When I got a little older, I started to realize the absolute enormity of the universe. Then I started to think about the statistical impossibility that out of so many stars in so many galaxies (in so many dimensions?) that we are the sum total of life. One planet, with one intelligent life form.

I then started educating myself the best that I could in the field of Extraterresials. This entailed frequent trips to local book stores. This was a difficult process, because as I'm sure you have noticed, every author seems to have their own view of the "truth."

So I decided to just keep an open mind to any theories I hear, and of course, one eye constantly on the sky, just in case.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that humans will never "discover" Extraterresrial life. We are too young in our development to be capable of finding those that do not wish to be found.

When we do make contact, it will be at the discression of those on the other end, but I don't think they will contact at all until we unite as an entire planet.

If they make contact before we forget about our petty differences and stop killing each other, it will be for one of 2 reasons:

1) They are here to help. They have and are willing to share technology that
would make fossil fuels and hunger a thing of the past.

2) They want to conquer our planet. Easily done when so divided.

The second point brings me to the theory I have on why we haven't been obviously contacted. There is a very good possibility that they have been watching us for centuries. If this is so, they know our mind frame, the so called "Human Nature" of destruction and plunder of wherever we go. If they were to contact us, most world military institutions would immediately go on their highest alerts. We assume that since it is what WE do, THEY will do it.

This is ridiculous to me. If a society has made it so far as to achieve intergalactic travel (or even galactic travel,) they must have done so with global co-operation.

It is entirely possible that we were once a space travelling society. But perhaps, we were in fact so violent (look around) that we were QUARRANTINED to a little planet in the middle of nowhere. So the warden keeps watch for signs that we are ready to know the truth of our place in the universe, our history.

But, it is "human nature" to forget everything but the grudge. We fight and fight over lines on a map. What I am trying to say is WE HAVE TO WAKE UP! There has to be a better way. We all know this if we look deep enough within ourselves. Look past your memories and feel the sub-conscience history that is there. We can be more than this. That's all it will take.

That's all for now, I'm out of space. Peace.
