I live in the Chicago area and enjoy High Power Rocketry specializing in science fiction and oddball designs.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am pretty confident that extraterrestrial life exists. What percentage of that life is capable of sending a radio signal (and far enough in the past for it to have reached us) is the big mystery. We know there is one. Surely the discovery of another would be one of the greatest scientific discoveries of all time.

Possible dangers? I think the only possible danger (and the greatest potential benefit) would be the change in our perception of the universe and ourselves as a result of such a discovery. Should we risk this? Science has already given us the H-bomb, I fear no LGM.
