Profile: Richard van Denzel

Personal background
I'm from the Netherlands and 40 years old.
I'm contributing to the SETI@home project now for a couple of years on various systems (started on a P150 and now on a P IV 1.6GHz M, IBM p690 (LPAR with 6 Power4 CPU's and occasionally a Dual PPro 200 (Linux)).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think extraterrestial life exists, but I doubt if we will it discover it this century.
We can benefit from it by learning new technologies and different ways of life. The danger in it is the danger of getting overrun by the extraterrestials.
I don't think we have to transmit a beacon, because we sending out enough garbage already (TV and Radio).
I'm running S@H, because I am interested in the question, are we alone?
