| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

Started running SETI@Home 10 years ago on a 133MHz P1 with 48megs or ram, which took a week or more to do what my CoreDuo laptop does in a few hours.
As to why I share in the work, I suppose I am a hopeless romantic. I believe that the pursuit of scientific truth transcends geopolitical realities. And, even if we never discover a signal from another advanced culture or from God or from whoever, that is in itself a valuable datum.
I admit, I absolutely hate the new 3D graphic. The rolling motion gives me a headache. It would be nice if one could freeze the motion, because other than that I rather like it. |
