Personal background
I'm an editor living and working in the D.C. métropole, interested in language, science, politics, cooking, wine, and spirits (whisky, not so much ghosts).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It would be too weird for us to be unique in the universe, so I do believe extraterrestrial life does exist. However I doubt they're flying around trying to molest cows or anything. I also think the first sorts of emissions we are likely to find are the equivalent of our FM radio, which would mean one day SETI may be tuning in the ET equivalent of Classic Rock, which would be kind of interesting.
