Statistically, it is a certainty that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe. The fun part will be in the discovery. I believe that, sooner or later, a more advanced civilization will discover us, not the other way around. The potential benefits are mind-boggling. Of course, there is always the possibility that they will consider us to be a failed experiment and sterilize the culture dish.
I run seti@home because I enjoy being part of the quest. Who knows, maybe we'll identify a signal from another intelligent species, before they actually get around to finding us. |
