Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Undoubtedly there is life out with our solar system, although it may only be at simple level. But who knows, some people believe that it is futile to listen, as the chances of detecting a signal are remote if not nil. Even if there were only one other intelligent civilistaion on the far side of the galaxy who started to transmit some 60,000 to 100,000 years ago, we might only now be able to pick up such a signal. When wiil we make contact? I'd like to think I would see it in my life time, which is the reason I am contribuiting my computers idle time to the Search. I dont believe there are any dangers from any contact we might make considering the turn arround time for any reply we might send. Our current kowledge of physics puts limits on the speed of travel and at an infinitely large cost, but even if this were over come by any alien race I feel they would have reached a stage in their growth that we would be neither a threat to them nor our resoureces of use to them.
