Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I do believe that the possibility of extraterrestrial life existing is very great. When on considers the quantity of stars, solar systems and planet that exist, it would be very cocky of man to suggest that life on our earth is the only life around. The possibility of intelligent life out there is also great. I am also under the opinion that man here on earth is a result of more intelligent life from somewhere else. There is very suspect evidence here on earth that suggests an influence other than earthly. As to when and how we will discover it? That is a very good question. Some say we may already have. Religion itself could very well be our recognition of extraterrestrial life. The possible benefits for man's expansion and growth are endless. But like any discoveries, there are also dangers. Just like here on earth, a discovery of a new life form, such as diseases, have there inherent problems. There could be life forms that see us a food in far away solar system, not much different that in the jungles here on earth.
2. We should continue to send messages from earth with the intent of contacting intelligent life that might exist. This is the only way to discover what lies beyond our current grasp. Math is the universal language and therefore the best choice for sending and receiving messages.
3. I run SETI@home because I feel strongly about discovering all we can. Outer space is the truly a frontier that we will be exploring for ever. The vastness and all its wonders beacons us. Like SETI@home and its members, I too am answering the call. The vast amount of information that needs to be analyzed only means that there is much to do and so little to do it, but it must be done. I am very happy to help.
