Profile: Michael SJ Dumond

Personal background
Well, let's see. I never do well with this. I live in Northern Maine, work as a Paramedic and shovel snow for half the year. I was USAF AFCS (304X4) in the early 70's. Been a Ham since the mid 60's, (WA1ZPD). The picture is of my grandson Chris and myself. Took him all of two minutes to figure out how to run the four wheeler.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think extraterrestrial life exists? Now, that is the million dollar question. When and how will we discover it? That question is worth two million dollars. In my humble opinion, yes, I do believe that extraterrestial life, (EL), exists. If I didn't, I wouldn't be here. With all the galaxies, stars and planets out there, it would be such a waste if we were alone. I mean, if we have intellegent(?) life in northern Maine, why not out there.

As for how we will discover it, well, that's easy. It'll be through projects like this. Through-out history, all major discoveries were made by the 'common man'. Governments have refined the discoveries, but it's the commoner we have to look to for the discovery. Which explains why I'm here. You can't get more common than I am. And you never know, maybe it'll be my computer that finds this elusive signal. My only fear is that someone will pull the plug on this before the signal is found.

As for sending a signal, not a bad idea. As long as it doesn't take away from this. My hopes are for our finding them before they find us. But, I'll take either one. What should we tell them? How about we tell them to dis-regard Gilligans Island, Hogan's Heroes and F-Troop. And that not all of us watch Pro Wrestling and Shop at Home shows. Seriously, I'll leave that decision to those more qualified.

In parting, I'll leave one final request:
ET, PLEASE CALL. REVERSE THE CHARGES.
