Personal background
I am a professional poet. Strange occupation, I know, but dreaming and writing are what I do best. I live smack dab in the middle of the country in Missouri, but I've travelled all over the US with my family. All my hobbies center around creative activities...painting, crafts, crochet, playing musical instruments, creating jewelry, drawing...if it's the least bit artistic I've probably tried it more than once. I wrote a poem long ago imagining myself as an alien observer on this planet and what I would see. It's strange to look at this world from the outside and try to imagine what an alien species would see and think of us.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I've always been interested in space and its exploration. I've always "known" there must be others out there. My parents had a UFO sighting shortly before I was born, so the possibility of alien societies out there has always been a topic of discussion at our dinner table. Growing up, I was fascinated by the SETI program and spent hours reading every article or book I could get my hands on about it. I remember watching the moon landings and thinking if we can get there, "they" can get here...the logic of a child, but I still believe it. My brother-in-law told me about SETI@home last year and I jumped on it. Anything I can do to further the research is awesome. I run SETI@home 24 hrs a day as a program rather than screensaver because the potential for discovery is more important that a little processing speed reduction. I just wish I could do more!!
