Personal background
I live Cape Town, South Africa. I'm a baby-boomer (born 1946). I work for a small IT company as software developer. We're near the mountains and the sea here, and both those places are favourites as I love walking and hiking in the mountains, and swimming or surfing in the sea of course - and when I get the chance, to go sailing.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It would be astonishing if our planet housed the only form of animate life in so vast a place as our universe, so I'm pretty sure that we'll find evidence of life elsewhere some day. I think the first real evidence will be circumstantial rather than direct, so SETI is an important part of sifting through one kind of evidence. That's why I run SETI.
A problem may be that this search may take a very long time - afterall people have been looking to and at the stars for thousands of years - and it may be a few thousand more before we know the answer. Of course, like many others I'd like to witness that personally. Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky with SETI.

Here's a little poem called "Listening"...

I lie beneath the world
Between light and dust,
Listening.

Only the moon,
Across the sea,
Shows where I am.
