Personal background |
Hi, I'm Liam Proven.
Once upon a time, I used to be a biologist. Now, though, the mortgage is paid
by fettling computers. A common tale, alas.
I retain my passion for the life sciences, though, and SETI's an extension of
it. There are an unimaginable number of stars out there, in our galaxy alone,
and to me it is similarly unimaginable that none of them harbour life.
Whether that life evolves intelligence is another question.
And if it does, whether it survives the experience...
If sentient beings are out there then technology seems likely, and radio only
a little less so.
If they find it and use it, we can find them.
And if anything I can do facilitates that it's worth my increased electricity
bill!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I see no need for a beacon: we've been operating one since we invented radio.
Not long after that, we added TV.
We're broadcasting lots. They'll find us. Hope they're friendly.
