Personal background |
I am a Non-Commissioned officer in the United States Air Force. I do weather forecasting for several military installations around the central US and mainly focus on resource protection and aircrew support. I also am a part-time computer tech, which incidentally is how I learned about Seti@Home. I was doing research on a small computer array we were working on and found this site. It intrigued me and since I have several computers at home that just sit idle anyway, I decided to install the Seti@home software.
Outside of the military, computers, and meteorology, I also study Chinese Northern Shaolin Kung-Fu, am working towards my B.S. in Business Information Systems, and try to spend every spare moment with my beautiful wife Penny.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1. I think it is most certainly possible, but the more I read on this the more I realize that if an alien culture is indeed purposely trying to contact us, then they will most likely use a technology much more advanced then radio waves. And if the contact is inadvertent....well, by the time we get a return message to them, I'll be long gone.
2. I think if we do transmit something into the great void then we should do so with the understanding that it will affect our distant ancestors and not us.
3. I mainly am doing it because the massive computing array interests me. If it's any indication of my priorities, I actually have 4 computers running Cancer Research and my two older decks running Seti. I am hobbling together an even older computer that I am installing Linux on and I will most likely run Seti on that, but just to see how it does(be lucky if I get 2 datasets done in a week on that old thing). Of course it all gets disrupted when I have a LAN party, so maybe I'm a typical carefree American afterall.
