Profile: Optik Fade

Personal background
I live in Denver, Colorado and work in the communications department of ADT Security Services. I enjoy tennis, snowboarding, hiking, and mountain biking. I am also a novice turntablist, (hip-hop DJ) and am often found behind my Technics 1200's and stacks of 33's. Some of my favorite bands/musicians include Richard D. James, The Chemical Brothers, Miles Davis, DJ Shadow, DJ Q-Bert, Jurassic 5, The Roots, Ozomatli, R.L. Burnside, Green Day, John Coltrane, Orange 9mm, Talib Kweli, Clutch, and The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.

I enjoy art, mostly drawing and graphic design. I am currently working on a web site mainly devoted to the discussion of recent automotive design trends, foreign and domestic, while providing a forum for critique of all aspects of automotive design, classic and modern.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have 3 computers that crunch SETI kernels, the first being a Macintosh G4/400MHz (running OS 9.1 and Yellow Dog Linux), the second is a Macintosh Performa 6400/200MHz machine running the Yellow Dog kernel of Linux. The third is a Pentium 100 running FreeBSD UNIX. They return packets in about 15, 60, and 80 hours respectively.

The main reason I choose to participate in the SETI@Home project is my belief in a simple theory: Computers have no excuse to have idle time or sleep. A computer never needs rest, so why not flex the processor when you are not using it? I believe that a CPU's main function is to crunch data 24-7. I am a firm believer that shared computing power can help make a large impact on history as we know it. I am very excited about projects that link CPU's together to perform large tasks in a small amount of time. SETI@Home and Project Appleseed are excellent examples of this.

On a post note, I am a very religious person (non-denominational Christian) and have no problem whatsoever with contributing with this project. Some people beleive one cannot entertain the posibility of life other than human while maintaining Christian beliefs. Obviously I am not one of those people. I am, as you may have already discovered, an awful speller.
