Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
As for extraterrestrial life, isn't it a bit naive to believe we are the only living beings in the universe? Who knows when first contact will happen, quit frankly though would you want to commuicate with a race with the problems we have? The wars, the destruction of our enviornment, I would be somewhat reluctant.
As for a beacon transmission, how would we know what form another race would use to communicate?
I run SETI@home out of deep respect and admiration for Carl Sagan, Astronomer, and author who looked for what the universe might hold. When I was young I first saw him on the Johnny Carson show, and religiously watched his PBS series. He would be the person whom I would say opened a world of possibilities to me. I believe many of us really miss him.
