Personal background
Yup, I'm just another Arkla-Homa-Fornian (AR/OK/CA) UNIX Administrator that screws around with radio control while driving fast cars and making loud alternative rock music yet blowing off steam with sarcastic rap projects while looking for that next perfect photography subject.

Born in the 70s, got my first motorcycle at 6yrs old, first computer was the TRS-80 32k coco, raced RC cars, flew rc airplanes, jumped on the linux bandwagon in 1993, got sucked into the isp world in 94 or 95 and have yet to truly get out. took my promising band and screwed it up by moving 2000 miles away when the band was starting to get radio and label interest. by the time we got everything together again, we realized that a record contract split between 5 guys didn't pay enough for us to keep our houses.

Didn't quit my day job :-)

The greatest thing in life is family. I know the concept of extraterrestrial life is very interesting and exciting. However, my wife and son are all i realy "need" on this planet. :-)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There is currently no "proof" that extraterrestrial life does or does not exist. At this particular point in time we can only speculate. Some people hope to find extraterrestrial life. Some people are opposed to the thought that life could, would, or should exist beyond our earthly bounds. Personaly, I belive that life does exist beyond Earth.

Additionaly, I do not belive that extraterrestrial life will be discovered by the inhabitants of this planet during my lifetime. The same mathematical possibilities which allow me to speculate the existance of life beyond earth also limit the potential of finding that life.

As the number of stars that can be seen approaches infinity, the number of stars that cannot be seen are exponentialy more. At this point, exponents of infinity are beyond me. However, Earth is proof that a planet could exist and be able to sustain life. With the number of celestial objects truely being "infinity and beyond", one could reasonably assume that life exists on at least one of those objects. To truly follow the concept of infinity as space measured from the central point expands in all directions in an exponential manner, we could also rationalize that life exists in more than one location.

The problem is in locating such a planet. Using the math that makes it possible to assume extraterrestrial existance one could assume that we would only snoop proof of existance if a number of things happened at the right time.
For example, we cannot "listen" for broadcasts which would intersect earth at every point in time at once. Most likly, an extraterrestrial broadcast would leave it's source in every possible direction at the same time. Also, with our infinit objects theory, it could be nearly impossible that the signal would make it here before being obstructed.

In short, there is probably somebody out there, although we will never meet them.

This brings us to a second question. Do we realy want to meet them? Maybe it's better that the chances of finding or being foun
