Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I hope we find ET before ET finds us. If ET has already found us I can only wish they continue to take a total “hands off” attitude while they study us. On this same note I hope we are able to add some additional meaning to their lives, even if it means the best they can get out of us is some comic relief. I would not in the least feel insulted if they made some comic book about us and I appear as one of the characters.
The worst that can happen to us is that ET makes a grand entrance and say's I'm here to help you develop beyond your current level of "what ever" THE greatest gift we have is that we discover and strive to seek knowledge, wisdom on our own. Human creativity would be the first to fall if ET tech and social systems became available to us.
9The introduction of new amazing tech is not evil; it could be the greatest thing to happen to us. However, we must obtain a level of cultural self worth capable of withstanding the onslaught of great wonders. I want always to remain human with my own self-awareness of what it means to be human. I need to be secure with a solid cultural self respect. To day we do not always respect or allow alternative views amongst our selves. Many of our world views are even diametrically opposed to others causing wars and strife.
9Where cultures are so insecure that they need force others to their will says a lot about us as a race. I hope to strive for common respect, but not at the cost of submitting to another’s view by force. I would advocate force and even war before allowing another to do so. My greatest hope and prayer is that my way of life does not hurt another’s. By saying this, I have doubts that I am culturally mature. If ET sees this please allow us to develop our own healthy cultural self worth first, but if you show up tomorrow, I’ll roll with it the best I can.
2&3. We are by nature curious. To ET we may be like “Curious George, that curious little monkey”. So to you Big ET boys just call me Curious George, AKA, Kurt Schroeder, Human, Terra.
