Personal background
President of the Experimental Rocket Propulsion Society (non-profit liquid rocket development group), owner of Wallis International Networking Services (ISP company), Wallis Enterprises (web eCommerce company) and Wallis Engineering (spacecraft development companmy).

As a computer consultant in Silicon Valley and a long time space activist, it is essential for human survival in this complcated and crowded world that we open simple, affordable access to space. Whether there is other intelligent life in the universe or not, we need to move outward, to learn to live outside our world.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have no proof of other life, but I have to believe on faith that it's there. But if I were them, looking at Earth in it's current state, I'd put us in quarrentine and hide their existance. We're not grown up enough yet to handle not being alone. What would the world reaction be today, if first contact were made? Not just how would we react, but how would others in other countries, other faiths, other views greet the arrival of other intelligent beings? Given events in recent history, I fear the response would not be uniform; that the good intent of those here would be indermined, if not destroyed, by others who see their role as central to all creation.

We need time to stretch, time to grow and time to learn humility in the face of all the glory and mystery the heavens have to offer.
