Profile: William F. LaCurtis, Phd.

Personal background
A quote comes to mind, from a Robert Frost poem that I'm sure "rings a bell"
with more than a few out there. "....two roads diverged in a summer woods....
and I took the path less traveled by."

It's been a varied trip down life's paths for many of us,
I certainly am not the exception to this rule. My name is Bill LaCurtis, as I
write this, my 39th. birthday has just zipped past me,& as I zero-in
on my computer's 500th. SETA@Home Workunit, I am thinking that it's
finally time to "take pen in hand," & wave hello to the diverse & somewhat
massive membership of the SETI community. I've seen much of this "blue marble,"
(remember that bit of children's educational programming?) in my lifetime,
having been moved about, growing up, many times. As a boy I loved
science, astronomy and reading, & fostered a wonder about the universe.
Years later, residing in NYC, with my wonderful & spirited wife
& partner in mind, Marie, I still am filled with a great wonder over
our place in the universe. I started off, focusing on Physics & Astronomy
in college, learning the nature of our surrounding cosmos, & via some
odd turns in life, I ended-up Directing a Therapeutic Education & Rec.
Center for Special Needs, & am now learning about the human condition
& human nature, that surround us on a more personal scale!
I still love the big picture of space, teach astonomy, run a club, &
explore the universe via my MEAD LX200 10" telescope, & do what I can to
increase my small store of knowledge (easy,) & wisdom (not so easy!)
The chance to participate, a tiny bit, in the great faith, that fosters itself among
those that search for answers, in SETI, is a thrill! Are we alone on our "blue
marble?" Like many, I think not! All things being possible, none can say for sure.
Should we give in to fiscal politics & narrower minds, & stop looking for the
answers, even if SETI never yields profound results? Not if we wish to evolve
beyond the sum of our parts & fully evolve in the process! Be well & Peace!
