Personal background
I'm a 31 year-old web developer living in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. I've been interested in astronomy since the age of 5, and I went to school at the Florida Institute of Technology for space sciences, and I did a year-long assistantship with one of the astronomers there in my sophomore and junior years. In my junior year, I realized that the math was getting way over my head, so I switched majors and graduated with a degree in "applied liberal studies" with only a credit or two shy of a potential minor in physics. How would that have been to be listed on my diploma!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I still maintain a strong interest in astronomy and space exploration, and what better way to contribute to the scientific community than to help out with SETI. The processed data will reveal valuable information whether we find evidence of extrasolar civilizations or not.

Although I'm an optimist in that it is almost certain that there must be other advanced civilizations out there, but the distances and potential technological differences are such that I believe it is doubtful we will hear from anyone soon... but we won't know for sure unless we try to listen.
