Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I feel very certain that extraterrestrial life exits. The first extraterrestrial
life will be discovered on Mars in the form of bacteria during this decade. The
major risk will be contamination to the Earth if the sample is brought back. The
major benefit will be the determination if life on Mars developed in the same
manner as on Earth. Does is it have right or left sided amino acid? Is its cell
structure the same?

I think we should send a beacon for others to find. The information we send
should be as basic as possible. Perhaps a math problem written in binary,
followed by some type of repeating pattern, and then a coordinate of our
location in binary.

I run SETI at home because I think this is a novel computational concept that
should be supported and also because I support the overall SETI cause.
I believe it would be worthwhile to identify a dozen star systems that are
about the same age as ours, have a similar type sun, are within 50 light years,
and that show no indication of any large planets orbiting close to the star.
Then we should look for signs of intelligence by examining all radio
frequencies, magnetic signals, laser signals, xray sources, etc.
