Personal background
I live in the Rocky Mountains @ Missoula, Montana. I was born in The Netherlands in 1954 to Dutch parents and migrated to the States in 1956 and finally ending up in Montana in 1959. I guess I have always been a "Techno Geek". I am a Master Subaru Technician and work for a Subaru dealer repairing cars until February this year when a slip and fall in my driveway so damaged my right shoulder that my "wrenching" days are done. I was offered a job in sales, so now I'm a OMG "used car salesman"? LOL. But, seriously, it's a lot of fun and the people are great! I also am a Sci-fi fan and StarTrek is my favorite show. I have always believed in Extra-terrestrial life. But I haver never been abducted by aliens or even seen a UFO, Some people have all the fun. ;) My brother introduced me to the SETI site and I love it. I play too much on my computers and am glad to have some meaningfull uses for my computers. I run this from my computer at work (PII 350) 24 hrs a day and from two of the five computers at home (P1 133) and a (AMD 1.2g)24 hrs a day. I may add my two boy's computers at some time. OH yeah!! I have two boys 11&12 and a loving wife (age not permitted) LOL My boys are on the honor roll at school and make me proud.

I encourage everyone to donate computer time to this project and by looking at user stats,I can see this is a great project that the whole world can take part and be proud.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe life exits out there. I think that we will find it out there and not here on earth. ET's that are capable of visiting us would not contact us until we are capable of finding them. Also we should be wary of contacting ETL that are not advanced enough to withstand the "Event" on their culture. I wholly agree with StarTrek's "Prime Directive" We will probably find the hard evidence we need on a space mission of sorts. However, the SETI project may indeed be the tool that proves ETL exists. Because of the extreme distance and time involved for signals to travel space we will not have communication with any discovered life for some time. ANy signals sent to other worlds will have to be calculated very precisely so we can be tuned in when the response would be recieved. I think the information sent should be mathematical expressions because that would be the common ground between us as the laws of physics should be the same there as here.
