Profile: Dave Moore

Personal background
I'm 28, from Mechanicsburg, PA. As a kid I dreamt of being the first person on Mars, because being the 14th person on the moon just doesn't have quite the same zing. Now that I am older and wiser, I've become more of an armchair astronomer. I've recently turned my love of space to model rockets, and hope to instill the same appreciation in my young son.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
To me, the exploration of space is one of the most important things our civilization does. Mankind has always wanted to explore what was over the horizon, our horizons are just much bigger now than they were in the times of Columbus and others. The benefits we've already reaped have helped technology come of age. And who knows what dicoveries lie ahead?

I think, given the nearly infinite number of galaxies, and stars within those galaxies, and planets around those stars, that some form of life certainly exists somewhere out there. Whether it's advanced as much as, or more, than us would be a better question. I think it's important for us as a race to try to find what lies out there, which is why I run seti@home. It's my small way of helping, since I realize I can't be the first person on Mars! :-)
