I certanly hope intelligent ET life exists. I think the probability of it is very high, given the unfathomable size of the universe and the availibility of the building blocks of life. While searching for life "way out there" we should not underestimate the importance of researching our own backyard. Mars may prove to have been more verdant and filled with life than currently thought.
I think SETI is a noble project. I am honored to be able to participate in it, and I only wish it was supported more by the scientific community and by the populace at large.
