Personal background

alias Oliver

I'm from Germany and live near Mannheim, that's in the southwest of germany and was born in March 1982.

I'm greatly interested in computers and spend a lot of my time sitting in front of my computer. If I don't play anything like "Diablo II - Lord of Destruction" or "Age of Empires II - Conquerors" I use my time to learn using 3D Studio MAX. Also I try to learn HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I love hearing music, especially Metal. My favorite music is Black-, Heavy-, Gothic- and Death-Metal. But I often listen to classical music, as well.

If I am not torturing my computer I'm reading fantasy- or science-fiction-novels. Wolfgang Hohlbein, a well known german author is my favourite author of fantasybooks. But I also visit a friend of mine to talk about everything you can imagine ;) or simply watch TV.

I guess this should be enoug for the beginning. If someone want to know more, he may write me an e-mail an ask for it: THEINFERNALVerjigorm@GMX.net

By the way, I'm sorry if my english is a bit terrible, but it's a relic of my time at school :)

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I guess there must be somewhere extraterrestrial life somewhere out there. The universe is such gigantic that it has to be impossible that we are the only intelligent species among space.
With our technology we are not able to find it in an acceptable time. I would say we need an additional century to find a another species. If we don't need even longer...

I don't know what mankind expects of contact to another intelligent lifeform, but there are some possibilities that may be used for the good of mankind.
If their technological knowledge is great than ours, what cannot be hard ;), they could teach us about it.
This could result in a better economy and more comfort. This could eliminate hunger and suffer from the world.
But that will only stay a dream, if mankind doesn't learn some things.

Ss I said our technological knowledge is not very good. With more knowledge it would be much more intelligent sending a beacon. But what do I have to say? :)

I run SETI@home 'cause I am, as I said, interested in science. And because my computers is nearly alaways running I offer it's power for SETI so sometime there will be found something.
I am not sure if it is useful searching for extraterrestrial life with our miserable technological knowledge, but if someome searchs, why don't take, even a very small part of it?
