Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
When it comes to SETI, I think the people doing the work is the most daring bunch of scientists on the planet...not only are they spending their whole careers for a "rare" moment but also are up against more critics than other branches of science (both from the Scientific commmunity and the general public).....but I hope that the support from both the SETI@home users and the sponsors encourage them to move forward.
As for ET(I), I think that they should exist based upon the features of the universe. Life on earth may be significant, yet insignificant in the astronomical arena. If someone asks "Why should ET exist at all?", I think the best reply would be "Why just us?"...........
Most of the SF movies have created a mental block in the minds of many...the aliens need not be bad...we need not necessarily be inferior to them in anyway...they are our counterparts in some other part of this vast and wonderful Universe. They may be a little more daring than us in sending a beacon(atleast I hope some of them do!)and some of them will still be wondering whether to send one or not(like us!). So we can expect the same things hapening in every part of the universe...but the fun exists in finding these out!!
I don't think we(as in the present generation) may find ET, but I'm positive that we(as the human race) will one day talk to them! |
