Personal background
I live in San Jose, Ca. with my teenage son. I have always been interested in space exploration and as a young girl dreamed of being an astronaut. The whole concept of space is inspiring, the beauty of the stars and galaxies, its immense scale...can we possibly be the only life that exists in this grand creation? I doubt it.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I had heard of the SETI project twice in the two years prior to downloading the program. I always enjoyed the wonder of space exploration and was very excited to finally have another outlet as a space enthusiast. After purchasing my new Pentium4 w/WindowsME late January 2001, SETI was first thing I attempted to play with. It seems that at the same moment I was initially accessing the SETI@home site some morons were cutting cables which later explained why I was having difficuly staying connected to the site that night. Well, I finally got the program downloaded and running and I've been totally hooked ever since!
I think the whole idea of distributed processing is awesome and I look forward to the many avenues of research the idea will advance. I enjoy being a part of the process--minute though it may be.
I don't really believe that we will connect with ETI in our lifetime...or that of our childrens' or grandchildrens' considering the vastness of the Universe and all the known and unknown variables; but who knows?...and if we do, then I hope my computer was the one to process the signal! Live long and prosper!
