Personal background
I am a science and information technology teacher at the American International School of Cape Town, South Africa. My initial use of the SETI at home project screensaver began a few years ago when I was a math and astronomy teacher at Eisenhower High School in Yakima, Washington. I am the developer of the Alternative Universe website, which promotes integration of information technology into the science curriculum.

Cape Town, South Africa, is one of the most beautiful locations in which I have ever worked or lived. It provides a great location for studying the Southern Hemisphere and the stars and constellations in this part of the celestial sphere. I had never seen the Southern Cross before coming to South Africa!

I am an amateur astronomer and former petroleum geologist, and have always loved astrogeology. I am currently working on an earth systems science curriculum for 7th grade science. It is my belief that the Galilean moon Europa may be our best outpost for exploring the outer solar system.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Among the billions of stars in our galaxy, there are millions of stars similar to our Sun; therefore, the possibility for terrestrial planets, and life on those planets, is tremendous. Multiply this by the number of known galaxies in the universe, and there are billions of possible star systems and planets with the potential for life.

DNA contains the blueprint for life on Earth, and may hold the same importance on other worlds. The evolution of life on other planets may be totally different than what occurred on Earth, so the dominant life forms may be strange and unusual compared to ours.

I run SETI at home because I believe that ETs DO EXIST! The nearest inhabited planet may be too far for our signals to have reached them yet, but they may have been putting out radio signals much longer than us!
