Personal background |
Hello, I'm 26 years old from Manchester, Uk. I suffer with agoraphobia which led to my interest in SETI. Having lots of time on my hands enabled me to research and get into all the Extra Terrestial stuff. In my spare time (which i have loads of) i like to write, play on my xbox, listen to music and research. It is one of my hopes that when i start getting out that i go to the Very Large Array. Well hope i ain't bored you's. :o) |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
First off, Yes, i do believe in ET. As Jodie Foster said in Contact "if there isn't, it would be a awful waste of space." I feel there is no reason why we should be the only life forms. For all we know therew could be some form of life on any of our neighbours, ie, Venus, mercury, Jupito, just because we can't see it does not mean it ain't there in some form or other.
We can't speculate on when we'll find the proof, we can just hope and wait.
The benefits of contact would be immense, knowledge of things we could never imagine, knowing that we are not alone in the great black, (space). The obvious dangers would be people who fear the unknown causing mass hysteria. And as for the big question Would a contact pose a threat," that is one question that one could not know but only hope against.
Yes we should transmit beacons. I'm not sure what information should be added, probably pics of Humans, star chart and more technical things.
I run SETI@home because i feel at the moment it is the only way i can contribute to the search. I think the project is ingenious, as it gives people the chance to get involved aswell as helps SETI get through the mountains of data.
