Personal background
I am from Japan.
I've spent for 16 years in Canada, so she is my second mother country.
I am 57 years old (old enough to participate in this project, eh?), and
have retired from IBM Canada as a programmer. I am looking for something to do without much hussle of competing with time.
When I was a kid, I was very much interested in the space and universe.
SETI project seems to be very exciting, although I may not be surprised whether if we are alone or we have bunch of peers in this or other(?) universe.
Having said that, It would be nice if I can be one of the "encounterer" of ET.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. The answer is "I don't know". I think the chance (of ET being existing) is 50/50, and perhaps that of encoutering with or dicovering them might be much smaller. If they are intelligent enough to be able to give us some signal of their existence, hopefully they are also intelligent enough to be peaceful and friendly to us (and also hopefully we are intelligent enough to be peaceful as well). Given the condition that we're still fighting within ourselves, they will not give us any signal of their existence even if they could. So to me, SETI project is testing ourselves more than anything, and perhaps no one on earth will find them until we are more morally and socially advanced.
2. I do not know if we humanbeing shoud do that or not for now. I think we should consider doing that when we stop to fight with each other first.
3. I started to join this project with the hope that human being can be in that stage sometime in future.
