Personal background
I'm approaching middle age but still look up at night like a 12 year old. And the sky can be quite beautiful where I live in Rosemere, Quebec, north of Montreal.
I'm in the middle of a career change with a startup along with my partners. All this came about after discovering Linux about 3 and half years ago and finding something that lit me up almost as much as the sky at night. If you haven't taken a poke at Linux it's time to do so - you don't know what you're missing. It's not just the platform which is really superb, it's also the community that has developed around it.
My family has pretty much settled into using Linux too. There is really nothing they can't do with it that they did with windows (except some of the games).
I also felt that I needed to somehow contribute to the community that has given me so much great software. Thus was born "The Voice of the Beholdin'", a column on the web site of the Montreal Linux User group at http://www.mlug.ca. I invite you to visit the site and browse the archives. Some columns are a little tongue in cheek while others are more serious, including one on Setiathome.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I've read most of the 'billions and billions' of words written by Carl Sagan and have been interested in SETI for 25 years. I can hardly wait for the work to confirm the existence of ET. I hope it happens in my lifetime.
I wrote a column about Setiathome which you can read here: http://mlug.ca/paul/stories/column17_html. Feel free to email your comments
