Personal background
I am a chemist from Kalamazoo Michigan. I saw an article on the SETI project on my birthday almos three years ago and registered immediatly. After running the screen saver for over a year I swurched to SETI Driver and the command line version to increase my throughput. I'm now running the software on three computers. I am married with two kids and my main hobby is beekeeping. I also dabble in model rocketry and computers.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1: I think there is ectraterrestrial life in the universe, but I don't think they are visiting us. I think the only way we are going to make contact in my lifetime is through something like the SETI project. With the vast distances between solar systems it is unlikely that if we make contact that we will be invaded. If we do manage to get a conversation going across the stars we may be able to learn something.

2. I think we should have a beacon to send out information about ourselves. It sould be something simple at first. Just to see if we get a response.

3. I run SETI because I believe there is life on other planets. With the billions of stars out there the statistics are to great in favor of other life.
