I am 27 years old and live in central England. I am studying for a masters degree in engineering and have studied physics, hence the interest in space.

| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |

1) Life must exist elswhere. Mankind would be foolish and egotistical to believe we were the only intelligent life in the mind boggling vastness of space.
I think the chances are that they will discover us but we still have to try!
Benefits could be enormous-huge leaps in technology and medicine, explanations of scientific anomalies which we do not understand the list is endless.
On the other hand it could be a difficult relationship - we, as humans struggle to get on with each other as it is without having to be diplomatic towards an entirely different intelligent species!
2)Hmm, difficult one this.......we should send a beacon but the content? lord knows! An intelligent species who has technology would therefore have mathematics therfore this could be used as a universal language-if we sent mathematical formula into space a technically advanced race would recognise that it came from another(we could also maybe include co-ordinates of our planet).
3)I run seti at home to do my bit for the advancement of encouraging the universe to give up it's mysteries. It is free, easy and beneficial to the program so why not?
