Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I am not certain. However, there has been much evidence which show that there IS indeed something out there. I'm one that has a tendancy to not fully believe in things that can't be seen or felt. It would be beneficiala to humans is such life is found to exist, as they probably will have curesa for diseases that we have not yet come up with (depending on their a technological advancement, of course). The dangers are that such beings could be hostile, or the human population could likely panick about hearing sucha news, causing riots, mass hysteria, etc.aa2. No. One never knows what the intent of the beings would be once they do finda out that we're here. If they would be hostile, who knows what they might bea capable of? We should instead allow other beings to contact us, then let oura people decide if they're hostile or not.aa3. I run SETI@home because if there's any way possible that I can help to advancea scientific knowledge, I'll do it. Also, I AM most definitely curious abouta whether there is truly life out there besides what we already know.
