Personal background
Just another guy from San Antonio. I work in a local lower-upper-class food displacement facility. Disc golf. Play it sometime, you might like it. Unless you do not like throwing a frisbee or walking (for example ~200-600 feet from the throwing spot *tee box* to the "hole", multiply that by 18 if you were to play the whole course. If you do try it, like it and are in the San Antonio area, check out Live Oak Park in the City of Live Oak near the 1604 and IH35 interchange, there they have a 28 hole course designed by a Pro. Bring a disc that floats in water, you might need it.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. 1a: Yes. 1b: Already done years back, in a crash. 1c: Possible benefits include the introduction of a new life form to our knowledge, the obvious technical advances which must be understood, and the unique ability to say "I told you so.". Now, the possible downsides are also painfully obvious, just look at any science fiction horror movie, aliens with the killing of inhabitants and the destruction of property and what not. They could kill us off with various deseases, or they could do whatever it is they do for purposes of killing off an entire race as efficiently and painfully as possible by the standards of thier technology.

2. Sure, why not? We've just been mindlessly sending wave upon wave of signals from this planet up until and including now AND later in the form of broadcast radio and tv. So, why not a specific beacon that says "Help Wanted". Granted, it is not really specific, but it is short, kinda.

3. I run this program because there is a lot of noise out there. Everyones gotta do what they gotta do. Keep up the good work.

...picture coming soon...
